Why I Quit Carpentry
Once upon a time I had a dream... And that dream has now changed
I'm a carpenter
So was my father
So was his father
As a child I was digging in the dirt.
Building literal and emotional foundations with my father.
The three of us have spent our lives building homes for people.
But in the summer of 2023 I came to a dark realisation...
We were only building homes in a material sense. Whilst those homes were beautiful, the families inside were slowly drifting apart.
You see over 50% of my clients would break up after some time. The house would be sold to the highest bidder and my work ripped out to be replaced by the next family's so-called dream.
As a carpenter I have been entrusted to build homes. But the practical work I do does not ensure stability for families.
So I decided to pursue something different. To shift my focus from the material realm to the social realm.
And this was the beginning of my new dream.
I've spent the last year digging deeper than ever before, this time inside. To see how I can contribute something more.
It might seem obvious to you but I came to the conclusion that the time families spend together is just as valuable as what they spend it doing.
Let's look at 2 related statistics…
In 2000, young people spent around 2 hours and 59 minutes on screen-based activities. By 2025, the average person spends 6 hours and 40 minutes daily on screens.
Netflix subscribers around the world spend an average of 1 hour and 46 minutes, or 1.767 hours, per day streaming content. This translates to a total of approximately 53 hours per month.
I'll be real with you. I love stories, I love fantasy (especially The Lord Of The Rings) and other fiction. And series/movies are how we bring those stories to life visually.
Humans understand the world through stories. And we learn lessons faster through them.
Neuroscience shows us that facts go to your working memory. Stories go to your long-term memory… they activate the entire limbic system. Feelings create memories. Memories guide behaviour.
That's exactly why you remember the boy who cried wolf.
Fables teach life lessons in an unforgettable way. They have done so for centuries.
So if you watch or read stories with your children, why not go even deeper and write one together?
Why not give them the ability to learn their own lessons and create stories through the power of writing?
Most families outsource their mythology to Disney and Netflix, missing the opportunity to craft narratives that reflect their unique values and experiences.
Fables are short yet have a lasting impact on us and how we view the world.
So I created The Family Fable as a social tool.
Because centuries of storytelling have taught us that the most powerful transformations happen not when characters are forced to change by external pressure, but when they choose to change because they've finally seen the true consequences of their patterns.
This is why great fables don't preach. They reveal.
They don't tell children what to do. They show children what happens when people do certain things—and let the children draw their own conclusions.
For the next 7 days I have created a 50% discount as part of the launch. So if this interests you now is the time to grab it. It's just $17 which is less than an evening out.
I guarantee it will last longer in your child's mind than a thousand hours in front of the T.V.
Please consider sharing this with anyone you think would enjoy it.
I built this because I think the world needs more dreamers than ever.
More children growing up knowing the power of their own imagination.
Wouldn't you agree?
Thanks for y/our time.

Hey Tommy! I love this! Family gathering to consciously create their own story.
Such a gorgeous idea! I’m gifting this to my son and his young family. 💗
Great post, thanks for sharing your story.
If found it interesting when you said how unfulfilling it is when you saw your work being sold to the highest bidder. I can relate to that big time. It’s exactly what I was seeing with my clients when I helped them to build their business and brand and only to see it getting sold (or closed down).
